Islas Hermanas Sister Islands At a time when corporate led globalization is harming the environment, living standards, and human rights, here is a positive, grass-roots example of people's globalization. Islas Hermanas celebrates a unique 13 year connection between Bainbridge Island [near Seattle] and the island of Ometepe in Lake Nicaragua. Organic, shade grown coffee from Ometepe is professionally roasted on Bainbridge and sold by volunteers to fund clean water projects, schools, and libraries in Nicaragua. Ometepe families host Bainbridge high school students each spring, and U.S. third graders create and sell calendars to support school projects on their sister island. Vivid location footage and spirited Nicaraguan music help tell this story of international friendship affecting thousands of people on both islands. Broadcast on KCTS PBS/Seattle in April, 2000 Copies: www.bullfrogfilms.com |
